When the temperatures become soar and your air conditioning system decides to fail, it can turn out to be a nightmare especially at night when you need that cool air when retiring to bed. Today, finding a good AC technician to get the job done properly is quite difficult. But, there are some quick actions you can take to save your ac system and keep it in a good condition for longer. We have prepared a simple air conditioning troubleshooting guide that will help you diagnose problems that may occur to your AC.

The condenser fails to run

When your condenser won’t run, it might be that the power is off. Check if the ac system is plugged in then switch it on. Proceed to check the electrical panel for a tripped breaker or a brown fuse. Switch on the power and observe what happens.

Another reason that may prevent it from running is a high thermostat setting. Ensure that the thermostat is set five degrees lower and see if it will get back on. If it doesn’t kick on, the problem may be coming from a faulty compressor. This will require a professional to come over and fix the problem.

Air flow is not cold enough

Impaired airflow is one of the cause of this problem. Your AC may be running but it isn’t cooling your house as expected. First, check the thermostat and if it is okay, check the outdoor condenser and try to clean any dust, leaves or debris. Using some water, gently rinse the unit of any other particles.

If the condenser is clean, probably the problem could be coming from a faulty compressor or inadequate amount of refrigerant. You may need the help of a professional AC technician to solve this.

Water dripping

When the AC is running, the cool air may turn any water droplets into frost ice which may form around the unit. Check for any traces of ice around the furnace and if there is any, switch off the outside unit for some hours and leave the blower on the furnace running so that the ice will melt.

After sometime, you can continue troubleshooting.  Switch the ac back on and feel the copper lining on the outdoor units. The lining should be cold with some condensation. If not, there may be a problem with the refrigerant. This can be handled by a technician otherwise if there is no more ice or frost, you can continue troubleshooting.

Inadequate cooling

Sometimes the ac system won’t provide enough cooling effect despite the condenser and the compressor running. This can be done after operating for about 10 to 15 minutes before recording the temperature.

To solve this problem, you can lower the thermostat by five degrees. Also, you may prefer to clean the evaporator coil.

Continuous shutting on and off of the air unit

The AC system may develop a tendency of shutting on and off repeatedly. This problem may occur if there is a dirt in the system or a blocked condenser. To prevent such problem, you may consider giving a good cleaning to the whole unit and remove any barriers in the system.

Well, have you tried troubleshooting your AC problems using the above Air Conditioning Repair and troubleshooting tips? If not, you may consider applying them before seeking the services of a professional technician.
